Bachelor of Social Work Curriculum
To provide further development of the basic skills of generalist social work practice associated with intervention at the individual, family, group, organization and community levels, Fairview Recovery Services, Inc. offers intern experience contained in the following field instruction objectives provided by Marywood University: demonstrate self-awareness and conscious use of self in the helping relationship operationalize the values and ethics of the profession of social work in practice situations, as both a fundamental orientation and a guide to intervention (confidentiality, client respect, self determination) identify the qualities of a professional relationship (respect for client, mutuality, collaboration, etc.)
demonstrate the ability to communicate with diverse client systems in various phases of the social work process
demonstrate a fundamental and prime concern for the consumer of services, with one's first responsibility to the client
reflect a position which places the user of service or community group client system as a core element in issue identification and solutions including the delineation of goals and tasks in the change effort demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to race, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, class, religion, physical or mental ability, and national origin in particular interventions or practice settings synthesize sociological, economic, political, and historical factors which shape practice in a particular intervention or practice setting use psychological, biological, sociological, and cultural data to develop professional assessment organize in a systematic manner the information available in a situation; utilizing appropriate theoretical framework(s) demonstrate the use of a variety of interventive roles and strategies with t risk populations demonstrate skill in evaluating the interventive plan use both intra and inter agency resources in the helping situation demonstrate professional responsibility for practice intervention and an understanding of accountability in social work practice apply critical thinking skills in social work practice demonstrate flexibility in altering his/her approach based on new learning demonstrate knowledge of the forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination and the strategies of change that advance social and economic justice apply the use of supervision and consultation as tools to enhance professional practice demonstrate the ability to interact and work with colleagues participate with other professional and paraprofessionals in activities which enable client system goal attainment use both written and oral communication in a professional manner, including the use of case recording skills for documentation and accountability, and methods of safeguarding professional communication demonstrate skill in analyzing social policies and their impact on clients, workers, and agencies complete a program evaluation or research utilizing a single-subject design function within a social agency and, under supervision, seek necessary organizational change

Chemical Dependency Counseling Curriculum
To provide a supervised clinical practicum introducing the student to the CASAC (Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) role, Fairview Recovery Services, Inc. offers intern experience contained in the following field instruction objectives provided by Broome Community College: to provide a practical, living laboratory experience which will serve to test selected, academic concepts presented in other courses to further provide a real-life setting in which can be used by the intern in developing those skills and characteristics that relate to research findings regarding what makes effective helpers to provide a real-life experience which can be used as the basis for discussing approaches and duties with other interns in similar settings to have interns formally evaluated by working professionals such that the level of performance can be used in the future for further growth and/or reference to become familiar with community alcoholism and substance abuse services that are part of the local service delivery system to develop client assessment skills, involving problem solving approaches through critical thinking and professional writing skills to become acquainted with resources, target populations, needs assessments, and community philosophies relevant to education/prevention activities to engage in am alcoholism/drug use prevention program designed to enhance participant knowledge of the benefits and risks of substance abuse to develop an understanding of program evaluation as a method to improve service delivery to become familiar with the principles of ethical conduct and confidentiality as related to alcoholism/substance abuse and HIV/AIDS information to develop an appreciation for and awareness of cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity
