PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Career Choices Unlimited (CCU) was established in
1999 as the result of a vocational/educational counselor initiative
funded by the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuses Services (OASAS).
This project allows Fairview Recovery Services to provide
vocational/educational case management to individuals with barriers
to employment as a result of past histories of addiction and
homelessness.
Purpose: The primary purpose of CCU is to enhance the
client's recovery program, provide consistent and intensive
vocational/educational support and assist with a range of
opportunities and growth in career and education.
Goals: The goal of CCU is to help individuals become more
productive and economically self-sufficient while they are
recovering from substance abuse. To accomplish this, CCU staff
integrates vocational preparation and post employment support into
the treatment process. Career planning at CCU includes a wide range
of activities that help individuals address issues related to job
stress, develop job search strategies and identify appropriate
community resources. Vocational rehabilitation case managers meet
regularly with clients to identify interest, skills, and work
values; to evaluate work readiness and work potential; to discuss
educational needs and vocational goals; and to draw up
individualized career plans.
Target Population: Men and women over eighteen years of
age who suffer from addiction and/or alcoholism and, are
participating in an OASAS licensed drug & alcohol treatment program.
This population may include individuals receiving public assistance,
Unemployment Insurance Benefits, Social Security entitlements and
others with no evident means of financial support.
Capacity: The number of individuals CCU serves annually
fluctuates from year to year as it is dependent upon referrals from
OASAS licensed agencies. However, CCU anticipates serving
approximately 160 persons annually. 70 of these individuals will be
identified through Fairview Recovery Services continuum of care
(including ACM, FHH, MHH, SL, and S+C). 90 individuals will be
referred from other OASAS licensed agencies or outpatient treatment
programs. |
