PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Merrick Community Residence, providing alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for recovering females, is intended to bridge the gap between intensive treatment and independent sober living.  MHH is a 12-bed facility with an average length of stay ranging from 3 to 6 months.


PURPOSE: Merrick Community Residence is a Halfway House for alcoholic and chemically dependent women. The primary purpose of this Program is to bridge the gap between intensive treatment and sober independent living.

GOALS: The principal goal of the Program is to provide a living environment that will enhance the recovery process. The following is a list of the major objectives of this Program:

  • Maintained and sustained abstinence from alcohol and other drugs. Coordinate linkage to treatment program, recovery support system (AA/NA), and other community services (i.e. health, mental health, legal, etc.) 
  • Acquire and practice appropriate social and living skills (i.e. appearance and grooming, personal hygiene, communication skills, problem solving, etc.) 
  • Acquire and practice appropriate social and living skills specific to women's issues (i.e. assertiveness, healthy boundaries for self and in relationships, integrating healthy relationships with children/family with early recovery, strategies for addressing affective instability). 
  • Engage in and maintain a program of educational/vocational training, volunteer work, and/or employment. 
  • Learn and engage in sober recreational activities. 
  • Develop healthy community ties.

TARGET POPULATION: All women admitted to Merrick Community Residence are chronically alcoholics and/or chemically dependent who have an understanding of their addiction and a commitment to recovery. The following is a list of the primary admission criteria:

  • Inability to abstain from alcohol and other drugs outside of a controlled environment.
  • Need for an intensive level of care. 
  • An alternative setting is impractical or has been unsuccessful

LENGTH OF STAY: Residents of the Community Residence typically stay three to six months.

CAPACITY: 12 bed facility.
