PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This project, funded through New York
State Office of Mental Health, began admitting clients in May 2001.
Five to eight beds (out of 36) at Fairview’s Community Residences
and six beds (out of 40) in the Supportive Living program are
designated for dually-diagnosed clients.
PURPOSE:
The MICA
Enhanced Residential Services program provides community residential
and supportive living levels of care for alcoholic and chemically
dependent men and women. The primary purpose of this program is to
bridge the gap between higher levels of care to safe housing options
and case management in order to promote sober independent living.
GOALS:
The principal
goal of the Program is to provide a living environment that will
enhance the recovery process.
The following
is a list of the major objectives of this program:
- Maintain
and sustain abstinence from alcohol and other drugs. Coordinate
linkage to treatment program, recovery support system (AA/NA), and
other community services (i.e. health, mental health, legal,
etc.);
- Acquire
and practice appropriate social and living skills (i.e. appearance
and grooming, personal hygiene, communication skills, problem
solving, etc.);
- Engage in
and maintain a program of educational/vocational training,
volunteer work, and/or employment;
- Learn and
engage in sober recreational activities;
- Develop
healthy community ties.
TARGET POPULATION:
All persons
admitted to the MICA Enhanced Residential Services are dually
diagnosed with alcoholism and/or chemical dependence and
co-occurring mental illness. Participants are required to have an
understanding of their addiction, mental health needs and a
commitment to recovery. The following is a list of the primary
admission criteria:
LENGTH OF STAY:
Residents of the
Community Residence typically stay 3-6 months. Residents of the
Supportive Living Program, Mannion House, typically stay 6-24
months.
CAPACITY:
Five
to eight beds in the Community Residence and six beds in the Mannion
House facility. |
